Actives degrade during processing and storage, so the quantity added must exceed the declared dose by enough to hold the claim to expiry. Setting that overage requires real stability data, not an assumption. Too little and the product fails late in life; too much and cost rises while some actives approach upper intake limits.

Heat exposure during processing costs potency

Vitamins vary widely in thermal stability, and the cooking and holding steps in a gummy process are demanding. Adding sensitive actives as late as the process permits, and minimising time at temperature, preserves substantially more potency. This frequently means reworking the addition sequence rather than raising the dose.

Minerals, acids and some botanical extracts interact with gelatin and can weaken the network or shift its setting behaviour. A gel formulation validated on a placebo may not survive the addition of the active load. Development work should use the full formulation from the outset rather than adding actives to a finished texture.

Many actives are bitter or metallic, and the traditional remedy is sugar and acid. Where the product is also positioned as reduced-sugar, those tools are constrained and the formulation becomes considerably harder. Each piece must carry its share of the active, which makes deposit weight consistency a compliance matter as much as a quality one. Suspended actives can also settle in the holding tank between deposits. Agitation and hold time therefore need validating against measured piece-to-piece uniformity, not assumed.
